The Brittany is a breed of gun dog that was bred and developed in the Brittany province of France. The breed was originally developed to be a gun dog that was designed to hunt birds. The Brittany breed is believed to have been developed during the 17th century, as this is when they were first depicted on French tapestries. However despite being an old breed, the Brittany was not recognized as a breed until 1907 when an orange and white male was registered in France. The breed is commonly nicknamed the 'Brittany Spaniel.' However despite the common reference to Spaniels, the Brittany's working characteristics are more similar to that of a pointer or setter. As a whole the breed typically has a compact, athletic and solidly built body but without being heavy. They have large floppy ears that hang low on the sides of their heads. The Brittany is also known to have a very intelligent and alert expression. Due to its history as a hunting dog, the Brittany is known to be intelligent, obedient, easy to train, loyal and sweet-natured. It is important to note that the Brittany is more sensitive to human correction than most other breeds - do not use a harsh tone while training it as it will become upset. The Brittany make a perfect household pet as they are energetic, playful and sociable with children and other small animals. It is important to note that if you do not provide your Brittany with adequate exercise it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom and having an abundance of energy

Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet.
